What does the Bible say about self-esteem? How are we to determine our worth? What is the true source of our worth?
The true basis of our worth is not to be found in the things of this world but in our right relationship with God, which is only made possible through faith in Christ, He lavishes us with His Holy Spirit and gives us gifts to use for His glory. In Christ and because of Him, we are of infinite worth to God.
Proverbs 31:10 She is worth far more than rubies or pearls.
Unlike the ever-fluctuating self-esteem of the world, it is not based on success or what we do. Our worth does not change and cannot change, because our worth is rooted in the love of Christ and all HE has done for us upon the cross. Our accomplishments, our achievements, and all the abilities God has given us does not define who we are, our value and worth is not found in what we do or what we bring to the table. How awesome to know we are dearly loved, cherished and adored, chosen, and called by name.
God does not define success the way the world does. I succeed greatly when my focus is Christ and I’m doing what the Lord has called me to do, walking in the assignments He has given me. We each have different assignments. When we keep our eyes on our own lane with our heart set on Jesus, we then can be women of God who cheer and come alongside other women without jealously, unfulfillment, comparison or dissatisfaction with ones own life. We can cheer each other on genuinely, because we know we have set our heart on what the LORD has called us to do. Knowing our worth and the way God sees us brings great fulfillment.
You are worth it because God said so.
Don’t be proud at all. Be completely gentle. Be patient. Put up with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2 Advice like that never gets old!
